When things are hard, consider this

Sometimes adulting is rough, isn't it? This week was one of those weeks, on so many levels.

So, how do you stay unshakeable?

Whether it is the atrocities of war, unexpected health news, or a refrigerator that decides to quit at the most inconvenient time, there is so much coming at us, so much we cannot control, so much to navigate and keep moving. It can feel like it's just too much.  This week I had to:

Get back to basics.

For me, that means journaling.

Pen to paper.

Outside.

Breathing.

Feet in the grass.

Coffee in hand.

Grounded.

This week did not feel like a week for gratitude or delight, though those things are important in times of overwhelm and sorrow.  I recently began a new practice I want to share with you for times like these.

The prompt is simply this:

Dear Love,
What would you have me know today?

Whew. It was powerful for me to think about what Love had for me this week.  This practice is inspired by author Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love; Big Magic; and many others) and her new Substack Letters from Love.

I highly recommend checking this out, reading her letters from love, and engaging with the others who are sharing their letters.  It is truly beautiful. A bright spot of humanity when things are dark.

In full vulnerability, I'll share one of my letters from this week, in the hopes that it inspires you to consider what Love has to say to you as well:

Dear Love,
What would you have me know today?

Oh, my little busy bee, sit here. Stay with me. Do not rush on to what's next. You're always rushing, pushing, trying. Stop. If only for a minute, sit here with me. I see you.  I know you are capable, oh so capable. But even with your gifts, you cannot solve it all.  It cannot all be solved. Lay what you're carrying down. Leave it here with me. Let me love you through the sunshine, the crackle of the leaves under your toes, the brilliance of your favorite season. I see you. See me, too. I am always here, all around you.

Love,
Love

Sending you all my love as you navigate any challenge you may face this week.
