How to Ask Your Employer for Sponsorship

Many of my program participants have had success with their organization sponsoring their participation in The Unshakeable Women Collective as part of their professional development.

I encourage you to ask!

A few tips on requesting sponsorship for your participation:

• Share this website with your manager so he or she has plenty of background on professional coaching and its impact on you and your organization.

•  Talk about the benefits of your participation to your employer. What business goals are they trying to achieve right now, and how will your participation improve your ability to help them achieve those goals?

•  If you and your manager have already identified areas for your development (for example, in a recent performance review), explain how this training connects to those areas.

•  Be clear that you will not only use the learning for yourself but will bring it back to your team or larger organization and be open to brainstorming ways to do that.

•  Make sure you leave enough time for this to be worked into your division or company’s budgetary planning!

Ask for it!

Here’s an example email to get you started!

Hello Wonderful Leader Who Is Going to Say Yes,

Since our last meeting reviewing my top goals (list them out here) I have been researching programs to help me achieve them.

I found this program (Name of program) that I believe will not only help me reach (identify team/organization goal) it will also work towards my professional development goal of (identify professional development goal you’ve previously discussed with your employer).

Here are a few outcomes of the program, and how I believe this will help both myself and my team:

(List outcomes and how they relate to your organization. Examples can include:)

  • Clear plan and strategy to reach goals

  • Building leadership skills

  • Increased confidence

  • Connections and networking opportunities

I would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to review the program (provide link to website) and consider sponsoring me as part of my professional development.

I’ll schedule a time to discuss this further or we can address in our next one-on-one meeting.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
